Job Vacancy: General Manager – Transport Operations

Location: Iraq

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.

• MBA or Master’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain, or Business considered plus .

Practical Experience

• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or supply chain operations.

• At least 5 years in senior leadership role managing transport operations or a logistics business unit.

• Experience managing a profit center / P&L responsibility is mandatory.

• Strong knowledge of Iraq transport regulations, customs procedures, and cross-border logistics.

• Proven experience in fleet operations (trucks, tankers, heavy vehicles, specialized transport if applicable).

• Experience in contract management, client negotiations, and vendor management.

• Background in HSE management within transport or industrial environments.

• Experience with fleet tracking systems, telematics, and transport management systems (TMS).

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the transport operations as an independent profit center, accountable for revenue growth and net profitability.

• Develop and execute annual business plans, budgets, and commercial strategies.

• Identify new business opportunities, tenders, and long-term transport contracts.

• Monitor financial performance, margins, cost per kilometer, and fleet ROI.

• Oversee daily operations of the transport fleet, ensuring optimal vehicle utilization and route efficiency.

• Ensure high standards of dispatch planning, scheduling, and delivery performance.

• Implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize fleet availability and lifespan.

• Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and service quality.

• Lead fleet expansion, depot development, or new regional market entry initiatives.

• Benchmark against industry best practices in transport and logistics.
